Yet Another Scam Plagues the Country

Renters beware: scam artists have found yet another way to dupe unsuspecting citizens. Here’s how the scam works: the scammer re-posts rental properties – listed on websites such as craigslist.com – with his or her own contact information; a potential renter then comes along, decides to rent the property, and puts a deposit down on the property; this money goes right into the scammer’s pocket and the renter is out the deposit he or she has just put down.

Rental companies are aware of the scam and have taken steps to try to keep these thieves from stealing information that will allow them to commit this crime – checking their ads daily, using watermarks, etc. – but they are somehow still able to duplicate the information and continue with their scam.
