People everywhere are trying to save the Earth by choosing more Earth-friendly options when it comes to their household. Energy Star is even providing rebates and tax credits to people who choose to do home improvements on their windows, doors and skylights to conserve energy loss from heating and cooling.

An Interesting Approach to Saving Energy in Your Home

The Sundance Film Festival is starting this weekend and they have many great films airing that will help you with your home improvements. There is one in particular that may have you wondering, “Have some people gone too far?”

The film Gasland is scheduled to start airing on Sunday, January 24th as part of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. It’s a documentary about a new drilling process called “fracking”. Fracking is digging into the ground with a hydraulic drill to remove natural gas. Energy companies are seeking rural landowners to lease their property for this purpose. The documentary discusses some of the problems with this energy source and why it could mean much more harm than good to animals, crops and even humans.

Solar panels - another way to conserve energy!

While the Sundance Film Festival’s Gasland “franking” may not be on your list of things to do to conserve resources, there are still many other things you can do to help out.

  • Make sure that all your window, doors and skylights are sealed or replaced if needed to trap in the cool or heat during the summer and winter months.
  • Check your furnace to make sure that it is working efficiently.
  • Recycle!
  • Use cloth bags as much as possible. Some stores are even charging you if you choose to use their plastic bags!
  • Turn lights off when no one is around using them.
  • Turn water off when you are not using it.

Taking steps to conserve energy will not only save you money it will help keep our environment healthy!
